  • In my opinion 2013 is one of the best years for LEGO. For many reasons, But If i would narro it down to one it would be the wider range of themes that LEGO has brought us, who agrees?

    • I would say that 2013 is a decent year for Lego, I mean by like bringing back the Cargo and Coast Guard subthemes, and then bringing back Castle. However, I feel as if 2010-12 had "better" sets. For example, the fire station used now is $99.99. The 2011 fire station was $79.99. A twenty dollar difference. Not only that, but lego now uses a cheap Chinese plastic and they severely overprice sets. So overall, I have some mixed emotions about 2013

        Loading editor
    • Lego only used the cheaper Chinese plastic as an experiment with ninjago and they don't do it any more. 2013 would have been perfect if they hadn't done any Chima, Marvel/DC, Friends, Disney, or Duplo sets.

        Loading editor
    • They also shouldn't have done any lord of the rings sets either, those are incredibly inappropriate for little kids.

        Loading editor
    • No Marvel/DC, Friends, Duplo, or LOTR... boy, Mech, you'd basically be cutting out some of the best new elements and pieces that we've seen in a while, as well as depriving several target audiences of their sets entirely... :P

        Loading editor
    • There is nothing wrong with Friends. Those sets are and continue to be better than City.

Same with Duplo, except the better than part. They just aren't aimed at you.

Lone Ranger (Disney) was one of the best themes this year, even if the movie wasn't.

Chima is okay, as are Marvel/DC. You didn't mention what I consider the real losers. TMNT is pretty bad, and City gave us the third year of police/fire sets in a row. They got better, but still. It's stale. Hero Factory is also weaker than last year.

    • O.K. this is the last thing I keep forgetting to post teenage mutant ninja turtles we didn't need either, that theme, along with all the other themes I've listed are all inappropriate for little kids and all people of this world, if I had kids I wouldn't let them play with those themes at all. Overall though, if we hadn't had those themes then 2013 would have been perfect.

    • TMNT is inappropriate for kids? :P I kind of see what you mean about LOTR, but you've lost me there.

Incorrect, the Chinese production is a full-time operation, and the reason the plastic is different is to comply with Chinese manufacturing laws.

      • Bricks and More - no idea
      • Castle - nice to see it return
      • City - same as ever
      • Creator - no idea, except the Opera House looks great
      • Minifigures - good solid waves, but nothing mindblowing
      • DUPLO - no idea
      • Friends - not for me personally, but a really good concept. Except the introduction of minidolls has ruined the upcoming Disney Princesses
      • Galaxy Squad - A great theme, but it frustrates me that there aren't any space themes that last for more than a year so decent-sized teams can never be built up
      • Games - haven't played any of this year's
      • Hero Factory - Hero Factory
      • Legends of Chima - The advertising was annoying. The sets look ok I guess, but not for me. It was originally intended for the successor to Ninjago until it was announced Ninjago would return. Ninjago works for me because the sets/concepts are so crazy, and Chima seems to be... less crazy, which I think is partly why I don't go for it. Plus, I'm not really an animal person, but I like ninja :P
      • The Lone Ranger - for a line based on a mediocre film, it somehow produced top quality sets.
      • The Lord of the Rings - great sets, but I don't get why so few were produced
      • Ninjago - really good sets as usual, but only one wave because of Chima. And because of Chima, I felt that there wasn't any real effort being put into the story behind these sets- the suits weren't named (like DX or ZX or anything), and the enemies weren't even given real names, they were like "scout", "soldier" and "warrior"
      • Star Wars - remakes remakes remakes. The ones which weren't remakes were good, and to be honest, the redesigns I have bought were superior builds to the originals. But end of the day, I still sort of think "I already had two Republic Gunships, did I really need a third?". I think they're relying on the must-have minifigures more than new ideas for sets.
      • Super Heroes - Marvel and DC first waves weren't bad. The Iron Man 3 wave - apart from Iron Man's suits and a War Machine, not impressed by how random the sets were. And especially unhappy with not getting an actual malibu mansion. I thought the Man of Steel sets were ok though.
      • TECHNIC - no idea
      • TMNT - seems alright. I got a couple which look like they fit in with the old series since I haven't seen the new one.
      • Hobbit - I won't be getting the set I have seen. But I'm really hoping 79012 is an Elf battle pack.
      • LEGO Marvel Super Heroes - at the moment, looks awesome, hopefully it won't be anything like LEGO Batman 2.

Overall, I'd say a lot of good things, a lot of not so good things, so 6/10 for me. Themes I actually collect are probably weighted much heavier than the ones I don't in this score.

(sorry about the text wall, just delete if it's too long, I didn't mean to do this, it just sort of happened)

    • I'm only going to do Super heroes. (because I got everything in that theme)

      • Arkham Asylum Breakout-Spectacular set, clearly the best one in the wave. So glad I finally got my Scarecrow, and I was on the verge of paying $60+ dollars on ebay.
      • Bat vs. Bane

The Tumbler was terrible. I had the old tumbler (but it broke and fell into several of my LEGO bins) and this new one was terrible. The Bat was okay. I'm not crazy about the blue highlights, but I love how they included the rope, as a reference to the end of TDKR

      • Batboat

An okay set, glad I could expand my JL. I have the old Freeze, and I don't really like the new one. Hate the amounts of yellow.

      • Spider-cycle

      Great mini figures, average set.

      • Daily Bugle

Pretty good, not perfect. I don't really like the figs.

      • Ultimate Showdown

Let's just forget this was ever made. At least we got a new suit

      • Extremis Sea port

I hated how inaccurate this was. I got this for War Machine. Killian looks pretty inaccurate.

      • Malibu Mansion attack-

Not bad for its size. I would have paid for say, an Arkham-sized and priced set.

      • Metropolis Showdown-It's a nice little set, not my favorite, but it was fun and worth the price
      • Black zero escape

Not extraordinarily accuarate, but it's a pretty cool and fun build. Lois Lane looked terrible.

      • Battle of smallville

Not bad for its price. In conclusion- Figures 7.5/10 Accuracy to films/comics 4/10 (Iron Man 3 really weighed this down) Builds 8/10 (Arkham really brought this up, I literally sat at my kitchen table for 8 hours building this) Playability 5/10

    • I'm suing Lego for making all the inappropriate themes I listed above. Then they will recall them and everything can go back to normal. The way it was back in the days of classic episode two gunships and 9volt trains.

Flawless plan. e_e The themes really aren't that inappropriate. It's not like there have never been any atrocities connected to Pirates, or Castle, and Castle 2007 was particularly dark. And frankly, I was more disturbed by the skeleton in the Aqua Raiders squid as a kid than anything in LOTR. I kept looking at all the other diver minifigures, wondering which one eventually became that squid's meal. :P

I didn't really make a final choice. :P It was just a thought that would sometimes preoccupy me whenever I thought of that set.

    • Over the years I've noticed LEGO really gearing their sets more toward the younger generation more then ever. I guess it's expected because it is a brand toward kids and most of their customers probably are the younger folks. However I've found it hard for me to except how LEGO is going with their sets. For one I am not that young anymore. While I enjoy playing with a few LEGO bricks now and then I haven't really been able to admire the most recent sets. So in my perspective I haven't found 2013 of LEGO to be the greatest year for me(regarding that) While I know there is some sets for the older crowd. Like LOTR, Mindstorms, Technic, and a few others. I'd rather see newer sets like that.

I would find any name of a fictional character inappropriate unless it included cussing or was of a person infamous for obscene behavior. I may not like another, but that doesn't make it inappropriate.
