Two-subject disambigs[]

I generally disagree with deleting disambiguations on principle if they only have two articles. These disambigs serve a purpose when both articles are roughly equal in relevancy. For example, I would be very strongly opposed to deleting Sam Sinister (disambiguation); the infamous "Sam Sinister Switcheroo" is so notorious and confusing that it is more helpful for Sam Sinister to link to a disambig rather than either Slyboots or Lord Sam Sinister.

It is also worth noting that Wikipedia does indeed have disambig pages with only two articles, so it is a practice used in other well-known established wikis. --PeabodySam (talk) 22:11, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Yeah it is worth a discussion. I was only aware of this bot targeting pages with an inconsistent naming case.—Toa Kopaka Nuva (talk)
That was the primary purpose of the bot, yes. I just happened to come across some disambiguation pages that only included two subjects, and personally I think it's needless. I think of disambiguation pages like wiki categories-you should have at least three subjects linked by the same or similar title before it's worthy creating a page for, just like you wouldn't create a category with only one or two subjects.
@PeabodySam I disagree. I feel like we should pick one article to link a particular name to, and then have text at the top-as there currently is in both of those articles you gave as examples-explaining the difference. I figure that either:
  • The first minifigure or set article to have a particular name should be the one which that name links to.
  • If one subject has more prominence or significance than the other, then it gets the link. For instance, "First Order Star Destroyer" would link to 75190 First Order Star Destroyer, rather than 30277 First Order Star Destroyer.
Still, since the two of you have differing opinions, we probably should make it more of a discussion. Question is, is anyone besides the three of us liable to take part? The matter didn't attract much interest on Discord.Kilmarnock228 (talk) 23:10, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
You know, it occurs to me that list pages might be a good answer to this, at least when it comes to vehicle sets. We could effectively combine the various disambiguation pages into an appropriate list page, and thus have a good section about a particular topic without needing a separate disambiguation page. Not sure how to apply it to characters…Kilmarnock228 (talk) 00:05, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
