Robin, aka Dick Grayson, was Batman's first Robin. However, he then becomes the superhero, Nightwing and is succeeded by Jason Todd. Robin originally appeared in the Batman theme, but was brought back from He appears in summer 2015 Super Heroes wave in his New 52 and Teen Titans outfit.

Description

2006 Variation

The original variation uses a Black hairpiece introduced on the Gilderoy Lockhart minifigure. Robin's face has a small smile with his teeth showing and a green domino mask with ovals around the eyes and white circles inside of the ovals to give the appearance of the eyes commonly given to super heroes and villains in the DC Universe. Robin's torso is red and features four small, yellow rectangles in a row starting just below his neck until they end just above the circle on his utility belt. The utility belt has two shapes which sprout from the left and right sides of the circle and extend into two parallel lines on each side which end at the side of the torso. The utility belt is also yellow. On the upper-righthand corner of his torso, Robin has his yellow R logo printed. His torso also has faded muscular lines to give the torso shape. Robin's arms and legs are green, his hands are black, and his hips are red. He also sports a yellow cape.

2008 Variation

The only difference between this variation and the original is that Robin has been updated with a newer hairpiece introduced that year on the Mutt Williams minifigure, but in Black rather than the Dark Brown Mutt used.

New 52

This version is based on Dick Grayson as Robin in the New 52. He uses the Skater's hair, and Damian Wayne's head. He wears a black cape. His outfit is primarily red, with green and yellow accents. His torso features shoulder straps with the "R" symbol and layered armor on the lower half. He wears a dark green belt with yellow lights above it. His arms are black, and his legs and hands are dark green.

Teen Titans

This version of Robin is based off Dick Grayson in the Teen Titans animated shows. He uses spiky hair in black, and reuses the 2012 Robin's head. He wears a yellow cape. His torso is very similar to the 2012 Robin, and he has dual-colored arms to simulate green short sleeves. His hands and legs are green.

Video Game Variations

In LEGO Batman: The Videogame

In the video game, Robin is identical to his appearance in 7783 The Batcave: The Penguin and Mr. Freeze's Invasion.

Robin's standard appearance in LEGO Batman: The Videogame

He is armed with a red and green batarang and able to use grapple, but his other abilities depend on his suit. In LEGO Batman: The Videogame, Robin is able to use different abilities depending on the super suit he is wearing. Each suit has a different look which differential its appearance apart from the others.

In his magnet suit, Robin is able to walk up magnetic walls. It is similar to his standard video game appearance except his arms and legs are recoloured dark grey, there is a "U" shaped magnet strapped to his back rather than a cape, and circular magnets attached to his feet.

In his attract suit, Robin is able to collect small, red, yellow, and green LEGO pieces and place them into a special machine which will create something out of them. This variation is also similar to his standard outfit, except his cape is replaced with a yellow tank with a two-digit number on the back to count the number of pieces collected. He also gains a vacuum as an accessory when in this suit.

In his tech suit, Robin may activate green tech panels, an ability which may also be used by Scientist. Once again, this suit is similar to the standard video game suit but his arms and legs are recolored white and his cape is replaced with two green antennae.

The Dive Suit allows Robin to dive deeper into water, an ability which Killer Croc may mimic. This time, Robin's arms and legs are recolored blue and his cape is replaced by a yellow airtank. Robin wears two black flippers and a black helmet with a transparent red visor.

Background

As a child, Dick Grayson was part of a circus act known as The Flying Graysons. One night, his parents were murdered during the act. Dick was then adopted by Bruce Wayne, the better known as Batman, who recruited Dick to become his crime-fighting sidekick Robin. After years of serving as Robin and working with Batman and Batgirl, Dick grew tired of being overshadowed and chose to strike out on his own. Around this time, he formed the Teen Titans with other sidekicks and young heroes, such as Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Cyborg, Raven, Beast Boy, Starfire (one of his prominent love interests and in many portrayals his girlfriend), among others and fought villains such as Deathstroke, Brother Blood, and even Trigon the Terrible. His responsibility as leader of the Titans reached a point where he wasn't able to dedicate time to his other role as Batman's sidekick. Dick then adopted the mantle of Nightwing (a name taken from a kryptonian legend told to him by Superman) and retired his Robin mantle, which would be used by Jason Todd later, therefore dedicating himself to be the Titans' leader full-time.

He returned to Gotham for a time where he restarted his working relationships with Batman and Batgirl, though they became rocky since Bruce and Dick had a difficult working relationship, and Barbara was jealous of his short-lived relationship with Huntress. However, Bruce and Dick eventually made amends, and he eventually worked with the new Robin Tim Drake. He also entered a romantic relationship with Barbara.

Dick Grayson has also taken on the mantle of Batman when Bruce Wayne was lost in time. This all happened before the New 52 started and it soon ended once Bruce came back to get the mantle back in his ownership.

Notes

  • LEGO.com has Damian Wayne's bio on the Teen Titans Robin: even thought the comic included with 76034 The Batboat Harbor Pursuit and 76035 Jokerland, as well as the design for the figure suggest that this Robin is, in fact, Dick Grayson.
  • While several items have revealed that Tim Drake is the current Robin and that the Super Heroes variant is based on, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes said the Robin alias was used for Dick Grayson, even though Nightwing is also in the game.
  • In LEGO Batman 2, Nightwing could use Robin's suits even though he would turn into Robin.
  • In LEGO Dimensions, Scott Menville reprised his role as Robin from the Teen Titans animated series and Teen Titans Go!. The Robin from the game is considered Dick Grayson rather than Tim Drake.
