The Red Classic Spaceman,[source?] also known as Classic Space,[1] Spaceman,[2] and Spaceman (Red Suit),[3] is a Classic Space Minifigure released in 1978. He is the most common spaceman and has been in 43 classic space sets.

A Red Classic Spaceman named Denny appears in The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame, while another Red Classic Spaceman named Spaceman "Apollo" Reed appears in LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed.

Description[]

The Red Classic Spaceman has red legs and torso with a Classic Space logo on the torso. He has the 001 smiley head and wears red air tanks and a helmet.

Background[]

According to the creator of the Classic Space theme and mini-figures, Jens Nygaard Knudsen, the red astronauts were intended to represent pilots.

LEGO Battles[]

The Red Classic Spaceman appears as an unlockable character in the video games LEGO Battles and LEGO Battles: Ninjago.

In LEGO Battles, Classic Space is a Secret Hero unlocked by collecting all Minikits in the Earth Story and is only playable in Free Play mode. Classic Space has 4 strength, 900 life, 500 bricks, and 2 speed. Classic Space's Magic Spells are Area Damage Boost, Area Armor Boost, Space Laser, and ESP.

In LEGO Battles: Ninjago, Spaceman has the ranged abilities Group Heal, Triple Shot, Magic Steal, and Space Laser. In his second stage, the Spaceman is joined by two other Spacemen; in his third stage, the Spaceman pilots the Space Scooter.

The LEGO Movie[]

In The LEGO Movie, a Red Classic Spaceman (most likely Denny) is among the Master Builders to meet in Cloud Cuckoo Land. In the 'Behind the Bricks' featurette, he was shown in the background with his helmet off, revealing his hairpiece to be that of the Daredevil, and Dareth. In the Emmet Awards contest videos, he is shown to be siblings with Benny and the White Classic Spaceman.

Although he does not appear in the physical 70841 Benny's Space Squad set, Denny is an unlockable character in The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame in lieu of Kenny.

LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed[]

Spaceman Reed, also known by his nickname "Apollo" Reed, is an Explorer attacker unit with the abilities "Laser Drill", "Antenna-Gun", "Shooty McShooty", and "Classic Teamwork". He is a record-setting pilot known across the star system for his daring flying acts, although he has to pay premium rates on his insurance. He is unlocked fairly early into the Glyph Hunt campaign and joins the Explorers in their quest.

LEGO.com Description[]

A daring unit famed for his quick reflexes and stunning maneuvers. Reed is always looking onward and upward, which might explain why he's so bad at driving in reverse.

Trivia
Known across the star system as a cocksure pilot who always keeps his thrusters at full speed, "Apollo" Reed has set galactic records for faster-than-light speed, barrel rolls, and the most barf bags in a single trip. You can't put a price on fame, but unfortunately for Reed you can put a price on space insurance. His premiums are astronomical!

Notes[]

  • Alongside the White Classic Spaceman, the Red Classic Spaceman was among the first astronauts to be released in Classic Space sets.
  • Spaceman Reed's name is a pun on the word red, referencing his color. His nickname "Apollo" simultaneously references the Apollo program and the fictional boxer Apollo Creed.
