"There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of them. But as long as I have my power, and breath in my body, I'm going to protect you. And you are going to defeat your father. Because what else is there to do? Give up? I don't give up."
―Nya to Lloyd

Nya also known as Samurai X[1] is a minifigure from the Ninjago theme first introduced in 2011. She is the Master of Water, Kai's sister, and Jay's (as well as briefly Cole's) love interest.

Description[]

2011[]

Nya's original minifigure was released in 2011; her hair piece sports straight black hair. She has a double-sided head. On one side, she wears a red veil that covers her mouth. On the reverse side, her whole face is visible, revealing a neutral or angry expression. She has been depicted wearing a sleeveless, red dress which is decorated with a phoenix pattern.

2012[]

In 2012 Nya received a second minifigure version, depicting her alter ego of Samurai X. She has a samurai helmet, similar to Lord Garmadon, with a unique red piece that covers her mouth and where her nose should be. She has a golden piece on top of the helmet similar to the Lord Garmadon's Helmet of Shadows. She wears a red shirt that contains a back printing, bearing a phoenix pattern and parts of her torso. She has a special piece that goes down over her torso as armour and her legs are red. She has a double-sided head that, on one side, bears a regular expression and on the other an mad expression.

2013-2014[]

Nya was the only Ninjago main character not to receive a new minifigure for 2013's "Final Battle" wave.

In 2014 Nya received a second Samurai X minifigure, which retained her previous helmet. However, this version came only with a shoulder armor piece shared by the "Stone Armor" Ninja of the same year, instead of a full breastplate piece like the previous version. Her armor was instead printed on her torso and legs, which included red, gray, and gold detailing.

2015[]

In 2015 Nya received three new figures: two versions of the same Samurai X variant, and her first Ninja version. The Samurai X figures featured black legs and torso with red and green armor printing, the chest armor bearing Nya's phoenix symbol. Her arms were red, and she had black shoulder armor and her traditional black and red helmet. The only difference between the two figures was a double-sided head, with one side showing Nya's face while the other showed a mechanical mask worn beneath the helmet. This same figure was released in 891620 Nya, minus the helmet piece.

Nya's first ninja figure also featured a double-sided head with serious and smiling expressions. Her first Gi is dark red with printed gold highlights, along with a printed light blue sash and knee decoration. Her hood, which matched the other Ninjas' Possession hoods, was molded from dark red and light blue plastic. The original release of the figure came with golden shoulder armor; the same figure was released again in 2016, minus this armor piece.

2016[]

Other 2016 versions of Nya included her Skybound variant, a black gi with red detailing and a light blue symbol printed on her chest. The outfit is accentuated with a slightly brighter red than her 2016 Ninja version, including a new version of the 2017 hood that was black and red. One version of this figure came in 70592 Salvage M.E.C. with a hairpiece instead of a hood. Nya also received an Airjitzu variant, which featured an all dark red ZX hood, torso, and legs. Her head and arms were light blue, and light blue detailing was included on the legs and torso.

Nya also received an "Honor Robe" variant for the Day of the Departed wave, which resembled that worn by her comrades. Nya retained her original hood piece, but received a new printed torso and legs in dark red with light blue decorations, as well as a clasp in the shape of her phoenix symbol. Despite becoming a Ninja, Nya also received a new Samurai X variant not based on any version from the series. The helmet and black shoulder armor returned, but the torso and legs were new, exclusive prints with black, red, gold, and white armor detailing. The torso print bore some resemblance to the original 2012 Samurai X.

2017[]

In 2017, Nya's honor robe variant was rereleased, but included a hair piece in place of her hood. She also gained a new Hands of Time Gi, dark gray with dark red accents and light blue belt and leg printing. A new version of the Possession hood came in dark gray and light blue; one released of this Nya also included a double-sided head with gold eyes instead of black.

For 2017's The LEGO Ninjago Movie, Nya received several new variants, the simplest being a version with Nya's head atop the generic white "Wu-Cru" robe. Her Ninja variant had printing depicting a black shirt under a dark gray top with some light blue decoration, as well as a printed skirt piece and gray legs. Her new two-piece hood was black with a dark gray band decorated with a light blue symbol. One release of this figure instead came with Nya's new black ponytail hairpiece; this was also included in Nya's Wu-Cru and civilian variants. The latter included a head with a smiling open mouth, legs with printed jeans with holes on the knees, a striped black and white shirt, and a black leather jacket.

2018[]

In 2018 Nya received several new variants, including a black Wu-Cru version and another white Wu-Cru variant that came with her original hairpiece. Her new Sons of Garmadon variant was once again dark gray and black with light blue decorative printing and a skirt piece that was included with one release. Her "Spinjitzu Masters" variant had the black Wu-Cru legs, but incorporated a torso decorated with blue swirling water.

Nya's "Hunted" variant was a new dark gray outfit that depicted some battle damage, light blue printed decorations, and a printed gray sash. There were three releases of this figure: one came with the Sons of Garmadon hood, another came with Nya's new hairpiece, and a version released in 2019 lacked a symbol on the hood. Her original hairpiece returned with her Bricktober exclusive Kabuki variant, which otherwise featured new printed head, torso, and leg elements. The head came in white with red detailing, representing Nya's Kabuki makeup.

2019[]

In 2019 Nya received a new Legacy variant, with a brighter red gi and light blue cloth printing at the neck, waist, and knees. A new hood piece was molded in the same red color and light blue, and the torso also featured golden dragon decorations. Nya also received a Legacy Samurai X variant, with her helmet returning in company with a new red version of her old armor piece. The torso and legs featured a new armor print, resembling the 2015 Samurai X print.

2019 also saw Nya received a new Secrets of Forbidden Spinjitzu Ninja Gi, dark gray with light blue detailing. The Legacy hood was remolded in dark gray and light blue as well, now bearing a symbol on the forehead band. Another hood was included with an "FS" version of Nya; apart from the hood, which was molded to depict blue flames, this figure is identical to the other Forbidden Spinjitzu figure. Along with Cole, Nya did not receive a "Spinjitzu Slam" variant.

2020[]

In 2020 another Legacy Samurai X Nya was released with a new torso, this one featuring the Samurai X symbol on its torso armor. It also came with red shoulder armor; otherwise, the figure was identical to the 2019 version. Nya also received an "Avatar" version that came with plain black legs and her 2017 hairpiece. It also included a breathing mask piece previously used for Apocalypseburg Larry the Barista; the part was introduced in 2016 in a different color. Her torso was not a new part, having originally appeared in several 2017 and 2019 City sets.

2020 also featured two new Ninja variants for Nya: "Digi Nya" and "Hero Nya". Digi Nya came with a dark gray and light blue torso (one arm in either color), and included dark gray and light blue torso and leg printing. She came with a dark gray and white helmet, a double-sided head featuring normal and "digital" eye printing, and a white shoulder armor/scabbard piece. Hero Nya's printing was similar to that of the Forbidden Spinjitzu variant, but with armor printing added at the waist and the upper torso. She also came with one silver arm and one light brown arm, along with a dark gray and gray metal hood piece and shoulder armor piece.

2021[]

For 2021, Nya received several new variants, including three Legacy figures. Most notable of these was a golden Tenth Anniversary figure, which included a new hairpiece for Nya with light blue headband and topknot fabric elements. This coloring matched Nya's half-mask and detailing on her unique printed torso; her legs were the same used for the other golden Tenth Anniversary figures, and she made use of a common gold shoulder armor piece. A new version of Nya in civilian clothes was also released, virtually identical to her 2017 version but with plain light blue legs instead of printed ones.

Nya's third Legacy variant was based on the future version of her seen in "Grave Danger". Her torso and legs featured unique printing, clearly inspired by her original Ninja suit. It incorporated Nya's 2011 hairpiece and gold shoulder armor, but utilized the face prints used for Nya since the movie theme.

Curiously, Nya's new for 2021 hairpiece was not used for her Island variant, which instead reused the movie hairpiece in combination with a light blue half mask. It is possible that the new hairpiece had not been produced by the time the Island sets were released.

Nya's Scuba variant included a new hood mold, incorporating goggles to combine with the new for 2021 Scuba gear piece. One release of this figure instead came with the hairpiece and mask combo of her Tenth Anniversary variant.

Nya received an "NRG" variant as part of the Seabound theme as well, though it was actually meant to reflect her transformation into a water elemental rather than her using the power of her Full Potential. This figure used the same hairpiece mold as Nya's Tenth Anniversary variant, but made in trans-light blue plastic for the hair and dark blue plastic for the fabric elements. Her head, torso, and legs all featured unique printing.

2022[]

Nya received a new Ninja variant as part of the "Core" wave, which sported a new dark gray Legacy-style hood piece with a teal molded headband. The hands and left arm of the figure were also teal, while the torso was in dark gray with gray and teal printing; the legs were a lighter gray. This figure also came with a gunmetal scabbard piece. Like Cole and Zane, Nya did not receive a "Spinjitzu Ninja Training" variant.

Nya received only one variant for the "Crystalized" wave, depicting her in a new version of her Samurai X attire. This figure featured gray legs with teal, read, and gold printing, and a teal torso with gold printing depicting an armored breastplate. The arms of the figure were gold with black hands, and it came with a golden shoulder armor piece using a mold originally created in 2018; this piece was also used for the second Legacy Overlord, the Maaray Guard, and various Monkie Kid figures. The figure also featured a black version of the 2012 helmet piece used previously for Samurai X, with a new gold horn piece and the gold mouth guard piece used for the 2017 version of Samurai X/Pixal.

Video Game Variants[]

In the LEGO Battles: Ninjago game, Nya is shown wearing the minifigure's nurse outfit, and a white dress. In Spinjitzu Scavenger Hunt players can select blue or black dresses that seem to belong to her.

2017's Wu-Cru game included a number of variants of Nya, based on various outfits shared by the other five Ninja. This included versions of Nya in 2011 and DX Ninja outfits, each colored in dark red with light blue elements to match her first Ninja outfit from Possession. Nya's ZX variant included printing similar to the decoration of her original Samurai X figure, but with blue cloth visible at her neck and no armor below the waist. Her Kendo variant resembles those of the other Ninja, featuring her 2011 style Gi with a breastplate and helmet pieces. Her NRG variant is dark red with blue and white water detailing.

Nya's Final Battle variant is a Gi with dark red elements and light blue highlights. Her Stone Armor variant incorporated a ZX Ninja hood, but otherwise matches the 2014 Samurai X figure except in coloring; light blue is visible at her neck, while the red cloth elements are replaced with dark red. Her Jungle variant resembles those of the other Ninja, but with dark red elements and a light blue waist sash, with darker blue cloth visible at her neck.

Background[]

Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu[]

In Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, Nya and Kai are working in their family blacksmith shop, Four Weapons. When they are approached by Sensei Wu who shows disdain for the weapons they make, saying they are useless in the art of stealth. He also says there is only stuff for a samurai, but not stuff for a ninja. Kai drives him off, who in turn disappears when Kai turns his back. Moments later, a dark cloud appears over the village, with local farmers being the first to notice. On the edge of the hill, a large vehicle (the Skull Truck) appears along with many motorcycles, all with skulkins on board, notably Nuckal, Kruncha, and Samukai. The farmers attack the skulkins, only to run at the last second. Then, Kai, wearing hand-crafted samurai armour, engages in battle, with Nya joining in. Kai is nearly killed by Samukai, only to be saved by Sensei Wu, who reappears just in time. He is not able to save Nya, as she is kidnapped under the orders of someone called "Lord Garmadon." [2]

Later, while Sensei Wu and the four ninjas, Kai, Jay, Cole, and Zane are sleeping in the Forest of Tranquility, location of the Sword of Fire, Kai is woken by Nya. She runs away, and Kai chases her through the forest, eventually entering the fire temple. Nya is then revealed to be an illusion made by Lord Garmadon in a shadow form. He exploits the fact that Kai had forgotten his sword, and that the real Nya is hanging from chains above the lava in the temple. Garmadon tells him the only way to save Nya is to pull the Sword of Fire out of its rock. Kai obtains the sword, cuts Nya free and is then confronted by shadows controlled by Garmadon. Sensei Wu arrives to save them, and jumps on a rock that is going down a lava fall so he may go to the Underworld. Nya then returned to her village where she waited for Kai and the other ninjas to return.[3]

The Green Ninja[]

In Season one, Nya is told by her brother that fighting villains was a job for a ninja. This most likely led to her becoming of the samurai. She and Jay also start becoming increasingly closer in this season. She is very smart because she was the only one to realize that all of the Serpentine tombs were inline with the Ninjago symbol for serpent. Although Kai called her a show off, Jay said she was smart.

In the episode, "Rise of the Snakes", the Ninja are warned by Sensei Wu not to let their laziness get the best of them, Nya rushes in and informs them that Lord Garmadon has been spotted in Jamanakai Village. After the Ninja had dealt with Lloyd Garmadon instead, Nya decides to visit Jamanakai Village and sees Lloyd had already returned with the Hypnobrai. When the Ninja hear of the Serpentine threat from Sensei Wu, Kai realizes that Nya is currently there, and the four of them head out on their Dragons. After witnessing the Serpentine and the villagers they had hypnotized, they meet up with Nya. She tells them not to look the Hypnobrai in the eyes when they rattle their tails, and also mentions that the General of the tribe is holding the Hypnobrai Staff, which contains the anti-venom to cure the villagers. Jay then offers for her to be an honorary member of their team, much to her annoyance. Cole manages to take the Hypnobrai Staff from Slithraa, but just as Skales hypnotizes him, Nya comes in and kicks Skales in the face, causing him to retreat. She then tells Cole to use the staff on the fountain in town, so the anti-venom can be distributed through the water supply and restore the villagers back to their normal selves.[4]

In "Can of Worms", Pythor P. Chumsworth steals The Map of Dens from Lloyd, Nya figures out the locations of the Constrictai and Venomari tombs. Later, when the Ninja are trapped in the Toxic Bogs, Samurai X scares off the Serpentine and saves the Ninja. When the Ninja approach the Samurai to thank her, she sprays them with a sleeping gas. She then flies off, and The Destiny's Bounty arrives.[5]

In episode six, the Ninja get their new ZX suits, and Nya reports that Serpentine are terrorizing the amusement park. The Ninja are more than ready to reply to the call. Upon arriving, however, the Ninja find that Samurai X has taken care of the snakes, tying them up in rope. The Ninja are under the belief that whoever catches the Samurai will be the Green Ninja, and so place a bet. A montage shows how they try in different ways to capture the Samurai, but to no avail. Back at the Destiny's Bounty, the Ninja complain about their failed attempts to try and capture the Samurai. After realizing Lloyd isn't with them, the Ninja track him down to The Lost City of Ouroboros. However, upon arriving they realize it's a trap when they are captured by Pythor. Pythor announces another Slither Pit for the entertainment of the Serpentine, to find out whether the Ninja or Samurai is stronger than the other. Although seeming to fight, Samurai X reveals he was just putting on a show until an opportunity presented itself, and helps the Ninja escape. After the Samurai's exo-suit malfunctioned, they landed in the desert. Cole, Zane, and Jay landed together in the desert, but Kai landed nearby the Samurai, when he discovers that Nya is Samurai X. After a discussion, Kai promises not to tell the others about her secret.[6]

In Episode eight, she explains to the ninja (who aren't paying attention) about a way to cure a Fangpyre bite and afterward Jay asks her out on a date. They were originally going to go to a fancy restaurant but after the Serpentine broke into the "Mega Monster Amusement Park" they went there instead. Nya gets captured by the Serpentine and Jay tries to save her. She reveals that she is the samurai to him and he is shocked. Nya kissed him and unlocked his true potential. At the end of the episode all of the other ninja find out she is the Samurai.[7]

In Episode nine, she is briefly seen saying that they only need one fangblade to prevent The Great Devourer from getting unleashed.[8]

In episode ten she is helping the ninja train and also warns them about the Fire Temple's being dangerous. Sensei Wu also explains how the Green Ninja is chosen and suggests that she might be the Green Ninja.[9]

In the episode "All of Nothing", She is captured with the ninja, and is the only one who has faith in Lloyd. In the episode "Rise of the Great Devourer", she is seen fighting the Serpentine along with the ninjas.[10]

The Final Battle[]

In "Return of the Overlord", Nya was transformed using Dark Matter and turns into a zombie like version which fights the ninjas. Since the ninjas don't want to hurt her, they gain a disadvantage. After a long struggle, in which the ninjas are initially outmatched, she gets frozen in ice. At the end of the episode, she jumps into the portal to Ninjago before it closes.

In the next episode, Nya stands guard with a turret attached to the Garmatron (as a fortress), and proves to be the Overlord's strongest soldier, destroying Lloyd's golden mech. She even took down the entire stone army when Dareth took control of them. Later, Cole, then Jay were turned evil by the Overlord's dark rays, and Zane had to stay behind to hold them off, which left only Kai and Lloyd, who was still injured after his defeat from the overloard. Nya ambushed them with her turret, and attacked the injured Lloyd. Kai draws her fire, and cuts the turret off of the building with his elemental fire blade, allowing Lloyd to proceed to battle the Overlord. This time, Lloyd won, and Nya was returned to normal.

Rebooted[]

In The Surge, she is first shown in The Surge telling ninjas they will go to a field trip to Borg Industries. Later, a perfect match machine in Borg Industries told her that Cole is her perfect match. In Art of the Silent Fist she tells Cole that he's a good guy, after what they almost kiss, but get interrupted by Jay. She started to have feelings for Cole. When she came to Jay's junkyard, P.I.X.A.L was back and she told her that Cole is her perfect match. After Jay heard that, they started fighting. When they got trapped in junk destroying machine, Nya had to cut blue or black wire to save them. It's still unknown which one she cut.

Later in Enter the Digiverse she got back her Samurai X mech which she used to fight Nindroids. In the next episode, Codename: Arcturus, she was in cinema with Jay and Cole. After they got out, they finally asked her which of them she will pick. She said that she goes with Jole, which is a small robot that she claims is a mixture of Jay and Cole, but actually is a theather robot named CinemaRobot3000. "Jole" leaves her just few minutes later when she comes to the Borg Tower.

In "The Void" Nya remains behind in Ninjago while the Ninja travel into space, only for Borg Tower to be attacked by the Overlord's forces under Pythor. In "The Titanium Ninja" she joins in the final assault on New Ninjago City but becomes separated from the others. She ends up battling General Cryptor, but is able to trick him into insulting Min-Droid, leading to a clash between the two. She is later torn up over the apparent demise of Zane, and embraces Cole in her sorrow, much to Jay's dismay; they all alter attend a memorial service in his honor.

The Tournament of Elements[]

Possession[]

In "Winds of Change", following the Tournament of Elements season, Nya joins the Ninja in being employed at Steep Wisdom, Sensei Wu's tea farm and shop, and then pilots the rebuilt Destiny's Bounty 2.0 in their effort to escape from the attacking Morro, who has possessed Lloyd. In "Ghost Story" she dons her Samurai X attire and faces Morro in an effort to keep him from Sensei Wu, but like the Ninja is defeated; she subsequently learns of his history with Morro, his first student. When the Ninja are sent off to Stiix, Nya remains at Steep Wisdom and is treated to a shocking revelation: as her and Kai's father was the Elemental Master of Fire, so their mother was the Elemental Master of Water. As such, Nya is the heir to her power and has the potential to become the Ninja of Water.

"Stiix and Stones" sees the beginning of Nya's training, though she is initially resistant, feeling that she could better help her friends by continuing to function as Samurai X. Given the task of filling a bucket with a hole in the bottom with water and becomes frustrated, which helps Wu realize that her weakness is failure, as she cannot stand the thought of not excelling. In "The Temple on Haunted Hill" she meets Ronin, who informs her, Wu, and Misako of the Ninja's efforts. With Ronin's help she leaves Steep Wisdom for the Samurai X Cave, intending to collect her equipment so she can aid the ninja, only to find that it has been invaded by Morro and his ghost allies. Finding her weaponry ineffective, she succeeds in destroying the Allied Armor of Azure, and then proves that she does indeed possess power over Water when she unconsciously calls rain down from a cloudless sky in the middle of the dry season.

Returning to Steep Wisdom, in "Peak-a-Boo" Nya dons her new ninja attire, and comforts Cole over his recent transformation into a ghost at the hands of Sensei Yang. She remains aboard the Bounty while the Ninja ascend the Wailing Alps, and she and the others succeed in capturing Morro's minion Ghoultar. "Kingdom Come" sees them attempting to interrogate him, only to be distracted when Morro emerges from Cloud Kingdom with the Ninja in pursuit. Unexpectedly, in "The Crooked Path" Nya makes a breakthrough with help from Ronin, who persuades her that her exertion to master her powers might in fact be holding her back. She then attempts to stop him from stealing the Sword of Sanctuary, but fails on two occasions to do so.

In "Grave Danger" Nya waits with Wu and Misako while the Ninja enter the Tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master in pursuit of Morro, and ends up battling against Bansha and Soul Archer. In Curseworld, Part I and Curseworld, Part II she joins the other Ninja in a final assault against Morro's forces, disguising herself as the Green Ninja and attacking the Ghosts in Stiix. After The Preeminent emerges, she joins in the effort to fight the monster, eventually boarding a steamboat to escape the city. When all hope seems lost, Nya is finally able to face her fear of failure and unlock her true potential. This allows her to summon a massive tidal wave that waves the Preeminent and her minions into an undersea chasm.

Skybound[]

"Infamous" sees Nya dealing with her struggles in the wake of the newfound popularity of the Ninja: she is seen merely as "the girl Ninja" and the press only seems to care about whether she's dating Jay or Cole. Unbeknownst to her, Jay has seen a vision of them together in the future, but she refuses to even entertain the idea of them becoming a couple again. She even refuses to take her hand when they're trying to hide from the paparazzi while trying to pursue Clouse. She soon has other concerns, however, as the Ninja have been framed for various crimes and are now wanted.

After the Ninja go into hiding, a message sent by Kai signals them all to gather at the Monastery of Spinjitzu in "Public Enemy Number One." They agree to split up once again, and Nya and Kai travel to the Corridor of Elders, only to be tracked down and captured by Ronin and sent to Kryptarium Prison with the other Ninja. In "Enkrypted" she and the other Ninja are incarcerated, but manage to escape by forming an alliance with Captain Soto. Having not seen her face previously, Soto comments that she seems familiar and then realizes it at the same time as their common enemy Nadakhan: Nya is a dead ringer for his lost love Dilara.

In "Misfortune Rising" Nya and Jay pose as police in an effort to learn Nadakhan's whereabouts, unaware that the Djinn is in search of her as well; Nya also reaffirms her lack of interest in being romantically involved with Jay again. She then comes to Cliff Gordon's mansion after Jay makes two wishes, and then joins the other Ninja in a mission to retrieve a map to Tiger Widow Island from Nadakhan's ship, Misfortune's Keep. In the process Flintlocke, Nadakhan's first mate, also notes her resemblance to Dilara, and Kai is trapped within Nadakan's Djinn Blade. "On a Wish and a Prayer" sees the group regroup at Cliff Gordon's mansion before taking his yacht to Tiger Widow Island, only for Zane and P.I.X.A.L. to be caught by Nadakhan along the way. The group then learns that Jay had met with Nadakhan and not told them about it, leading the group to become furious with him; Nya then succeeds in saving a supply of Tiger Widow Venom the only substance to which Nadakhan is vulnerable, though Jay is captured by the Sky Pirates as a result.

In "My Dinner With Nadakhan" Nya, Lloyd, and Cole attempt to find a way off the island, and after discussing her and Jay's stormy relationship with Cole finally master Airjitzu to escape an attacking creature. "Wishmasters" sees them infiltrating Misfortune's Keep to rescue Jay, only to lose Lloyd and Cole in the process, forcing the pair to go on the run after learning that Nadakhan wishes to marry Nya so he can gain the power to grant himself infinite wishes. "The Last Resort" sees the pair flee to the lighthouse where Dr. Julien was previously imprisoned, where they discover Echo Zane. After Nadakhan discovers their whereabouts by forcing Clancee to make a wish, they fortify the island against the Sky Pirate invasion, during which Nya once again faces Dogshank after previously battling her on Tiger Widow Island. With the island overrun, Nya forces Jay through a portal opened by Traveller's tea so that he can escape and come to her rescue, after admitting that she does still have feelings for him.

The Dark Island Trilogy[]

This adventure takes place after the events of the Skybound seaon, which concluded with Jay making a wish that prevented Nadakhan's escape and returned everyone to the moment in time prior to it. Nya and Jay have resumed their relationship as a result, and join the other Ninja in traveling to the Dark Island in search of the missing Misako and Ronin. After becoming separated from the others they encounter the Sky Pirates, whom they are the only ones to remember due to Jay's wish, with the pirates failing to recognize them as well. They then team up with Ronin to face the pirates and a Leviathan, before seeking out their allies. They soon discover that Clouse is responsible for the Sky Pirates and the strange happenings on Dark Island, but after a major battle manage to defeat him and save the island, capturing the Sky Pirates in the process.

Day of the Departed[]

In "Day of the Departed" Nya and her fellow Ninja rush to the Ninjago Museum of History using new vehicles acquired during The Dark Island Trilogy, and after obtaining lanterns for the holiday go their separate ways. Nya and Kai return to The Four Weapons to remember their parents, only to receive unwanted company: Master Chen and two of his cultists, Zugu and Eyezor. who have been brought back by the dark magic of Sensei Yang and the Yin-Yang Eclipse. After a fierce battle, Chen and his minions are sent back to the Departed Realm, and the siblings reunite with their teammates and learn who was responsible from a repentant Morro. They then travel to the Temple of Airjitzu to aid Cole, and their support enables him to defeat Yang, who experiences a change of heart. Cole is restored to human form at last, and the Ninja then take the Temple as their new base of operations.

Hands of Time[]

"The Hands of Time" sees Nya and the Ninja helping to clean up the museum, during which Nya and Kai find a portrait of their parents dated around the time Nya was three years old, which was also roughly the time of their disappearance. They also come across a painting of Wu and Garmadon battling Acronix and Krux, which Dr. Saunders-the museum director, tells them was a mythical confrontation. After a time disruption, the ninja take the Bounty to the old monastery-the epicenter of the disturbance-in search of Master Wu, only to find Acronix in the flesh. After a brief battle he escapes and reunites with Dr. Saunders, who proves to be none other than Krux, while the ninja find Wu after his own defeat at Acronix's hands.

Sons of Garmadon[]

In "The Mask of Deception" Nya defeats a group of warriors who are oppressing farming villagers before returning to Ninjago City to reunite with the other Ninja. While agreeing to help with security for the royal family, she expresses disapproval for the figurehead group until meeting Harumi. She and Kai later spot Hutchins, who they suspect is watching them even as they are monitoring castle security.

Hunted[]

In Season Nine, Nya is part of a resistance against Emperor Garmadon and his minions after Wu and the first four Ninja become trapped in the First Realm.

In Firstbourne, she and P.I.X.A.L. trained Lloyd to fight without his powers. She later attempts to escape with him, P.I.X.A.L., Misako and Dareth, but learn the hi Sons of Garmadon boxed them in. They are saved by several elemental masters, Skylor, Karlof, Turner and Shade, and escape to a garbage depot.

In Iron & Stone, Nya takes shelter with the resistance in the garbage depot, and seeing the scrap metal remains of the Destiny’s Bounty, she decides to make armor and machines out of it.

In Radio Free Ninjago, she suggests they make more armor and weapons to Lloyd, since they’re outnumbered by the Sons of Garmadon. She also watched Dareth’s match against Karlof.

In How to Build a Dragon, Nya helps Lloyd consider some options for allies.

In The Gilded Path, she has by now has finished building the Battle Wagon, and escapes in it with Lloyd, Skylor, and Dareth. They later flee into Ninjago City, and see a talking rat, who reveals themself as Mystake, who managed to escape the raid as well through her shapeshifting abilities.

In Two Lies, One Truth, Nya listens to Mystake’s story of how she is an Oni. When the Sons of Garmadon find them, she aids Lloyd in capturing Harumi.

In The Weakest Link, she helps the resistance get ideas on how to use Harumi to their advantage, finally settling on having Mystake shapeshift into her to allow Skylor to use Garmadon’s powers.

In Saving Faith, Nya is worried for Skylor when Garmadon’s powers begin to corrupt her, trying to convince Skylor to let go of the Colossus.

In Lessons for a Master, she, Lloyd and Dareth attempt to escape the city carrying an unconscious Skylor, but find Ultra Violet, and must fight her. Nya holds Ultra Violet off while Lloyd and Dareth get the Battle Wagon. Nearly an even match, Nya is taken down when Ultra Violet hits her with a street post and traps her under a car. The two boys return and hit Ultra Violet with the Battle Wagon, and get Nya back from under the car. However, they soon find themselves surrounded by the Sons of Garmadon.

In Green Destiny, the resistance is surrounded, unable to escape. They attempt to fight, but it is fairly insignificant. The stalemate ends when Kai,Cole, Zane and Jay all arrive on dragons, alongside a young adult Wu, who is riding Firstbourne. She aids the ninja in the Battle Wagon, helping take down the Colossus and fighting some of the Sons of Garmadon. Once Lloyd defeats Garmadon, she helps load the Sons of Garmadon into Kryptarium Prison. Several days later, while cleaning up the rubble, a fully grown Wu warns the ninja of trouble in the city. This is actually a facade for a party thrown by the people on the city, who want to thank the ninja for helping them countless times. Here, she tests her head on Jay’s shoulder, happily reunited with her boyfriend.

March of the Oni[]

In "The Darkness Comes", Nya is at the Monastery of Spinjitzu when the new mural depicting Ninjago's history is being worked on. Later, when Faith and the Firstbourne arrive fleeing the Oni invasion, she and her teammates board the new Destiny's Bounty 3.0 to warn the people of Ninjago. Arriving to find the Oni have already arrived, they rescue a number of citizens before recruiting Garmadon from Kryptarium Prison. In "Into the Breach" the villain walks in on her and Jay as they are talking, preventing Jay from asking Nya to be his yang as he intended. After Garmadon and Lloyd depart to destroy the Realm Crystal, she joins the remaining Ninja in answering Vinny's distress call.

In "The Fall", the Ninja rescue a number of civilians from the Ninjago News Center, but an accident with the new Bounty controls results in Cole plummeting into the dark cloud enveloping Ninjago City. Nya initially blames herself but is comforted by Kai, and she is inspired to have him melt down the salvaged Golden Master's armor into the Golden Weapons. In "Endings" Kai gives her the reforged Scythe of Quakes to wield in Cole's place, and she joins the remaining Ninja, Wu, Garmadon, and Faith in fighting the Oni as they march on the monastery. She is unable to wield the Scythe's power, but gladly turns it over to Cole when he appears, having survived his fall. As the Oni victory seems certain, Jay proposes to her and she accepts, and then takes part in the Tornado of Creation that defeats the Oni.

Secrets of Forbidden Spinjitzu[]

Some months later in "Wasted True Potential", Nya and her fellow Ninja have become lax due to no new threats emerging. Wu, frustrated with them, subjects them to a gauntlet of booby traps and surprise attacks, many involving a chicken with electricity powers. This culminates in a six-on-one battle between the Ninja in their master, in which Nya and her teammates are easily defeated. In "Questing for Quests", the Ninja decide to visit New Ninjago City in hopes of finding some trouble they can help deal with. However, they find nothing of significance, and are hopeless until seeing a news story about an ancient pyramid that will likely require Ninja skills to explore safely.

In "A Rocky Start", the Ninja travel into the Desert of Doom with their new vehicles, only to run afoul of the monstrous Beohernie. After being trapped by the beast, they manage to escape it and continue their journey in "The Belly of the Beast". In "Booby-Traps, and How to Survive Them", the Ninja join archaeologist Clutch Powers in exploring the pyramid, eventually coming across an ancient tomb. The tomb proves to contain the Serpentine sorceress Aspheera, who steals Kai's elemental power and defeats the Ninja, trapping them in the pyramid as she leaves. In "Ninja vs. Lava", the Ninja manage to escape the pyramid, encountering Aspheera's Pyro Vipers along the way, and are carried to safety by P.I.X.A.L. in the ShuriCopter.

In "Powerless", the Ninja arrive back in Ninjago City, and head to the Ninjago Museum of History to intercept Aspheera. They beat her to the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu, but end up losing it to her in a fight. In "Ancient History", the Ninja split up, with Nya joining Lloyd and Zane in attempting to recover the scroll from Aspheera. Unfortunately, even Nya's water powers prove no match for the enemy, and they are forced to retreat. In "Under Siege", Nya's group learns of a second scroll, and after interrogating an uncooperative Clutch Powers learn that it is currently stored at the Explorer's Club.

In "The Explorer's Club", Nya's party sets out to retrieve the second scroll, with Nya leading her teammates in breaking in to the club headquarters after they fail to negotiate or trick their way in. After making their way through the club collection-including a mirror that shows Nya her worst fear of never reaching her true potential-they manage to recover the scroll and escape. In "Vengeance Is Mine!" the three race to join their friends at the Monastery of Spinjtizu, with Nya warning Lloyd against too much contact with the scroll. They arrive in time to join the final battle with Aspheera, who is defeated but seemingly manages to vaporize Zane. In "A Cold Goodbye", Nya and her friends comfort P.I.X.A.L., only to learn that Zane is still alive in the Never-Realm. After another confrontation with Wu, the remaining Ninja are sent after Zane, unaware that they may have inadvertently trapped themselves forever.

In "The Never-Realm", the Ninja and the Land Bounty arrive in the Never-Realm, only for the vehicle to fall off a cliff. After making their way through the frozen environs, they encounter the Ice Fishers, who bring them back to their home village and introduce them to the elder, Sorla. Sorla is able to help the Ninja discover that Zane is at the Ice Emperor's castle, and they determine to go to his rescue. In "Fire Maker", after Nya has trouble picking up a signal from the Titan Mech, the village is attacked by a force of Blizzard Samurai. The Ninja manage to defeat them, and Kai is able to reignite the village's Hearthfire with his returning powers.

In "An Unlikely Ally", Nya becomes temperamental over Kai's inflated ego and her the apparent weakness of her powers, though Sorla assures her that she has the potential to command ice. Lloyd then informs her that he is going alone to try and find Zane, leaving her and the other Ninja to guard the village. In "The Absolute Worst", Nya and the other Ninja are discussed by several of their foes. In "The Message", Nya and the others are worried when Boma and Uthaug bring them a ripped piece of Lloyd's gi. In "The Traveler's Tree", Nya trains with Sorla in an effort to gain mastery over ice, but suffers frustration and an interruption from Cole.

In "Krag's Lament" Nya joins Jay in going to search for Cole after learning that he's left the village, following him up a mountain. They briefly come to believe that he has been killed by Krag, only to learn that he has in fact befriended the creature, who joins them in heading back to the village. Unfortunately, in "My Enemy, My Friend", the group arrives back too late to prevent the village from being attacked by Boreal, and find Kai the only inhabitant not frozen by the evil dragon. The four Ninja and Krag set out to find the Land Bounty, reaching it in "A Fragile Hope". Once again threatened by wolves, the Ninja struggle to get the vehicle operational, finally succeeding and heading for the castle.

In "Once and for All", the Ninja are attacked by Boreal, and engage in a running battle with the beast before Nya launches the Land Bounty into the air and crashes into the dragon. In "Awakenings", Nya realizes that Zane himself is the Ice Emperor when Boreal proves to be made out of ice. In the ensuing battle with the beast, Nya is able to wield ice against it, but Boreal is only defeated when Kai unleashes his restored fire powers against it. They then rush to the castle, where Zane has regained his memories and begun reversing the damage of his reign as the Ice Emperor. With the help of Sorla and Krag, the Ninja are able to make their way home to Ninjago.

Prime Empire[]

Together with her fellow Ninja, Nya became caught up in the mysterious resurgence of the legendary video game Prime Empire, which drew many Ninjago citizens-including Jay-into its world. Some time prior to this, the pair had attended a dance class together at Nya's suggestion. To Nya's surprise, Jay had proven a talented dancer, a skill he had picked up from a dancing game at his favorite arcade. Unfortunately, the two were interrupted in their enjoyment by news that the Mechanic was in the middle of committing a robbery, following which Jay was pulled into the world of the game.

The other Ninja-minus Zane-followed Jay into the video game world, and soon set out to find the Keytanas and challenge Unagami, the Mechanic's employer and ruler of the game. After obtaining the first Keytana with help from Okino, the Ninja found themselves faced with the challenge of entering The Speedway Five-Billion. Lacking enough in-game currency, Nya and Jay entered into a couples dancing competition, which they won despite facing formidable-and dishonest-opponents. Nya then worked together with their ally Scott to get vehicles ready for the race.

When one car proved irreparable, Lloyd recruited Racer Seven to join their team. The group were forced to flee Scott's garage when the Red Visors attacked, with Nya driving Scott's car while he remained behind to hold off the attackers. Nya and her friends succeeded in winning the race, but Cole and Kai both lost their final lives in the process and were converted into energy cubes as part of Unagami's scheme. Together with Lloyd and Jay, Nya made her way into the game's final area in search of the last Keytana.

After braving a side-scrolling level, Nya and Jay looked on as Lloyd battled a digital copy of Harumi, winning the last Keytana but losing his last life as well. The pair were then forced to contend with Sushimi and his staff, whom they managed to defeat after a fierce battle. Unfortunately, Sushimi is able to launch one final attack, and Nya loses her last life in the process of saving Jay from it, becoming the final energy cube Unagami needs to complete his portal to Ninjago. However, she and the other Ninjago citizens are restored to normal and freed from Prime Empire after Jay helps Unagami reconcile with his creator, Milton Dyer.

Master of the Mountain[]

Together with the other Ninja, Nya is invited to the kingdom of Shintaro to celebrate the birthday of Princess Vania. However, they soon discover that the Dungeons of Shintaro are being ruled over by the cruel Skull Sorcerer.

The Island[]

Nya and her friends travel to the Island of the Keepers in search of Wu and Misako, who have disappeared while on a mission with Clutch Powers. After arriving, they encounter a friendly dragon whom Nya dubs Zippy, only to then run afoul of a Stone Golem and be captured by the Keepers. They eventually discover that the Keepers are being menaced by what they believe to be the sea monster Wojira, but turns out to be a mock up created by Ronin and a gang of criminals. With help from Twitchy Tim, the Ninja succeeded in defeating Ronin's gang and establishing peaceful relations with the Keepers.

Seabound[]

In "A Big Splash", Nya joins her teammates in attempting to halt the criminal Miss Demeanor from escaping with a smuggled shipment of Vengestone. However, Nya loses control of the water cyclone she summons as part of a plan to stop the crooks, forcing the Ninja to quickly evacuate a small village. Back at the monastery, Nya angrily dismisses the accident as a one-time fluke, only for her powers to go haywire once again. Kai proposes contacting their mother Maya for advice, but Nya refuses, only to suffer yet another power malfunction. Afterwards, Maya and Ray arrive at Kai's invitation, prompting Nya to turn angrily on her brother.

In "The Call of the Deep", Maya's efforts to help Nya prove quite disruptive, from her organizing Nya's room to preparing highly unappealing breakfast food. When Maya's attempts to help Nya improve her form are followed by yet another loss of control on Nya's part, she begs Wu to find an excuse to get rid of her mother. However, due to his own limited knowledge on the power of Water, Wu considers Maya their best option. Nya turns to Kai for help on Nya's advice, but finds that their mom isn't nearly as hard on him. After hearing that Zane and P.I.X.A.L. have gone on a water rescue mission without her, Nya attempts to relax in the hot tub, only for a mysterious energy wave to disrupt her powers-and water sources throughout the monastery-yet again. In the midst of her apology to the others, however, Zane and P.I.X.A.L. return and report on the pulse, which they have traced to the Tartarus Trench.

In "Unsinkable", Nya and several of her friends prepare to board the Hydro Bounty, a submarine built by P.I.X.A.L. Nya is hesitant to join the crew due to her fluctuating powers, until Jay encourages her and Wu reminds her that the alternative is staying at the monastery with her mother. Nya informs Maya of her travel plans, and respond to Maya's doubts with the assertion that she's following her own approach to being Master of Water. Once aboard ship, the crew discovers that they have a stowaway, and Nya quickly guesses-correctly-that it's her mother. After discovering a graveyard of ships, the Hydro Bounty is attacked by an armed manta ray, and the ship is left stranded atop an undersea cliff.

In "Five Thousand Fathoms Down", Nya tries to get the Hydro Bounty running again and becomes frustrated with Maya again when she tries to help. As the Hydro Bounty's battery has been drained, mother and daughter use the APS suits to seek out the source of the energy pulses, hoping it may be able to recharge the Hydro Bounty. During the journey, Maya expresses sorrow over being separated from Nya for so long, and the hope that Nya will never have to face a choice like she had to make. However, she comments that "sometimes there are no good choices" and "that's how the cookie crumbles", sentiments that Nya doesn't appreciate.

The two eventually reach a temple, and discover a monstrous serpent inside that strange beings are attempting to awaken. The beast proves to be the legendary Wojira, and the latest attempt to revive her unleashes another pulse that affects Nya. Exposed, Nya and Maya attempt to escape, but despite Nya making use of her powers they are both knocked unconscious. In "The Wrath of Kalmaar", the two awaken to find themselves chained together with a pillar between them, and Nya recounts her recent adventure to the Island of the Keepers to Maya. Overhearing her, one of their attackers, Prince Kalmaar, demands to know the location of the island, but Nya refuses to answer him.

After Kalmaar is called away, Nya and Maya manage to cooperate to climb up and bring their bonds over the top of a cracked portion of the pillar. Attacked by Kalmaar's Maaray Guards, they manage to escape from their bonds-after some difficulties-and reach the APS suits. In "Long Live the King", the pair are attacked by a trio of Ripper Sharks, and Nya manages to drive off two of them before their friends arrive to chase off the third. The entire group is then brought to the undersea city of Merlopia, where they report their experiences to Kalmaar's father King Trimaar. Unfortunately, Kalmaar is not only unashamed of his actions, but mortally wounds his father and frames the Ninja for the crime, forcing them to flee.

In "Escape from Merlopia", Nya and her friends are saved from another Ripper Shark attack by Prince Benthomaar, Kalmaar's adopted brother whom Trimaar warned of his brother's treachery. With his aid, the Hydro Bounty crew are able to return to the Hydro Bounty and make their escape, before setting course for the Island of the Keepers. In "The Tale of Benthomaar", the group listens as Bentho recounts how he was found and adopted by Trimaar, but rejected by Kalmaar. In "The Storm Amulet".

In "Riddle of the Sphinx", Wu and the others back at the monastery receive a message from Nya about the Storm Amulet having been replaced with a fake by Clutch Powers. While their friends attempt to recover the real amulet from the Explorer's Club, Benthomaar encourages Nya to attempt to summon whales to pull their stranded ship to Ninjago. Nya at first doesn't believe she is capable of such a feat, despite Bentho nothing that the first Master of Water and Nya's namesake, Nyad, was capable of communicating with sea life. Though she is initially frustrated, partiuclarly due to blaming herself for Kalmaar learning of the amulet's location, Nya eventually succeeds.

In "Master of the Sea", the whales called by Nya pull the Hydro Bounty back to Ninjago City, arriving just in time to save their friends from being drowned by Kalmaar. The reunited Ninja and their allies then face off with Kalmaar's forces, with Nya battling the usurper king alongside Bentho. When Kalmaar attempts to escape, Nya pursues him, and seemingly succeeds in recovering the Storm Amulet, which Cole takes to Shintaro for safekeeping. Nya then shows Benthomaar around the monastery before offering to let him stay there while his brother remains a threat. Nya also expresses bafflement at her father and brother saying goodbye while playing Prime Empire, before bidding her own goodbye to Maya, the two having come to appreciate each other's abilities and feelings more thanks to their shared adventure.

In "The Calm Before the Storm", Jay finds Nya at their favorite arcade on the dance machine, and she enlists him in performing a routine she has dubbed "the Electric Jaya" after them. Their performance ends up breaking the machine, much to the admiration of the other patrons. The two then get a call from Wu, who summons them to police headquarters where the Police Commissioner shows them Kalmaar's scientist Glutinous in custody. Glutinous explains that Kalmaar has awakened Wojira, having slipped Nya Clutch Powers' fake Storm Amulet. The Ninja then rush to prepare for Kalmaar's expected attack.

In "Assault on Ninjago City", Nya rescues Dareth from the flooded streets of Ninjago City. Later, she blasts Wojira to free Jay's Sub Speeder from her jaws. She then launches herself at Wojira's head and a confrtonation with Kalmaar, which continues in "Nyad". Despite fighting fiercely, Nya is forced to break off from the fight and regroup with her friends. She arrives to find Jay in bad shape, having swallowed a quantity of seawater that has entered his lungs and resists Nya's attempts to draw it out.

As Jay's condition worsens, Nya questions Benthomaar about how Nyad became one with the sea, something Bentho discourages her from considering given that Nyad lost her own identity in the process. However, with no other way of getting help for Jay, Nya gives him a parting kiss before heading outside. With a final silent farewell, she plunges into the floodwaters below and merges with the sea, granting her the power to at last draw the water from Jay's lungs. Now a true water elemental, Nya rushes to confront Kalmaar and Wojira.

In "The Turn of the Tide", Nya faces off with Kalmaar atop Wojira's head, her watery form leaving her impervious to his trident blasts. However, Nya is distracted when Jay calls out to her upon arriving with their friends, and Kalmaar unleashes a more powerful blast that vaporizes her. After Wojira has devoured Kalmaar and turned on the other Ninja, Nya reappears in the form of a massive dragon made out of water. She battles with the monster serpent, and suffers another temporary vaporization before reconstituting herself in the heart of a cloud. Charging Wojira, she reverts to humanoid form and destroys the Wave Amulet, leaving Wojira to be destroyed by the power of the Storm Amulet.

Nya lands by her friends, but is confused when they discuss finding a way to return her to normal and distracted by the call of the sea. Her body ripples, and she notes that it is hard to maintain her current "shape", which also makes it impossible for Jay to embrace her or stop her as she heads towards the water. Bentho realizes that, like Nyad before her, Nya has become one with the sea, and is drawn to it in spite of the pleas of her friends and loved ones not to leave them. Saying goodbye to Jay, she gives them a message to pass along to Maya, referring to her mother's earlier comments about "the way the cookie crumbles."

Diving into the water, Nya draws the floodwaters out of the city before heading out to sea. At the monastery, Jay and Maya lament not having the chance to say goodbye to her, but Maya is touched when Jay passes along her daughter's last message to her. The Ninja then hold a memorial ceremony for Nya, which is attended by many friends, allies, and citizens from across Ninjago. Meanwhile, out at sea, Nya is joyfully in the midst of her new existence, rushing through the depths in company with the creatures of the ocean.
