Man-Ape, otherwise known as M'Baku, is a playable character in the Classic Black Panther DLC in LEGO Marvel's Avengers and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2.

Comics

M'Baku of the Jabari Tribe was born in the secretive country of Wakanda, in Africa. He became one of Wakanda's greatest warriors, second only to the T'Challa, the Black Panther who ruled the nation. M'Baku was the leader of the White Gorilla Cult, an outlawed legion in Wakanda which wished to transform Wakanda into a survivalist no-man's land governed by no laws other than those of nature and the wild.

M'Baku gained his strength by hunting down and killing one of Wakanda's few White Gorillas which he killed, ate, and bathed in the blood of before wearing it's skin to assume the identity of "Man-Ape". Since becoming Man-Ape, M'Baku has gone through several plots to usurp Black Panther and even joined forced with super-villains resulting in Man-Ape getting banished from Wakanda.

Marvel Cinematic Universe

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe M'Baku is the leader of the Jabari Tribe, an ancient group of Wakanda which isolated itself from the rest of Wakanda for hundreds of years due to their disdain for innovation and industrialization. During T'Challa's coronation, M'Baku attempted to conquer Wakanda by challenging T'Challa in combat only to be defeated and forced to yield, being persuaded by T'Challa to do so as neither wanted his people to be left without a leader.

After Erik Killmonger usurped the throne of Wakanda and mortally wounded Black Panther, T'Challa found himself rescued by the Jabari Tribe as repayment for the prince having spared M'Baku's life during their combat. Following this, M'Baku was persuaded to join Black Panther's battle against the usurper as he came to realize that Wakanda's resources in Killmonger's hands would be disastrous. After Black Panther became king again, M'Baku's forces and the forces of Wakanda made efforts to mend their relations.

  • Man-Ape was first revealed to be in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 in E3 2017 Day 1 gameplay footage where he was seen on the character grid.
