Dino Attack Game,[1][2] also simply titled Dino Attack,[3][4] is a online Dino Attack game released in November 2005.[5] It was developed by Yamago.

Description[]

Dino Attack Game is a top-down vehicular combat and exploration game that plays similarly to Yamago's previous games developed for Alpha Team Mission Deep Freeze. In this game, the player drives the Dino Attack team's vehicles. Each vehicle is used for three stages: the Fire Hammer for Stages 1-1, 1-2, and 1-3; the Iron Predator for Stages 2-1, 2-2, and 2-3; and the T-1 Typhoon for Stages 3-1, 3-2, and 3-3. All vehicles share the same controls, using the arrow keys to move, the space bar to shoot, and the control key to fire the special weapon, although each vehicle handles differently and uses different weaponry (with each new vehicle being stronger than the last); additionally, the T-1 Typhoon is capable of flying over rubble, fire, and water that the grounded Fire Hammer and Iron Predator must avoid.

For the first two stages of each level ("Lizard Attack!", "Raptor Menace!", and "Ptero Fury!"), the goal is simply to follow road arrows and travel from the starting point to the end, denoted by exit banners resembling the LEGO logo. Along the way, the player can optionally capture dinosaurs and neutralize eggs to increase their total score; at the end of each stage, their percentages are tallied. The third stage of each level ("Beat the T-Rex!") is a boss battle against a T-Rex; upon defeating the boss, a short animated cutscene plays showing Dino Attack team's victory over the T-Rex.

The player is shown a radar in the top left corner. Dinosaurs and dino eggs appear on the radar relative to the player's position in the center; the dinosaurs are highlighted in dark green, while eggs appear in beige.

To capture dinosaurs, the player must shoot them until they collapse. Each dinosaur, including T-Rexes, comes in three colors denoting their difficulty, with green dinosaurs being the easiest, yellow dinosaurs being moderate, and red dinosaurs being the toughest and possessing a red projectile attack. All dinosaurs deal damage on contact. They are always hostile towards the player, but also have a tendency to attack cars and (in "Lizard Attack!") houses in their path. The different dinosaurs include:

  • Mutant Lizard: The weakest and most common enemy encountered throughout the main stages. They attack by swinging their tails in close quarters. All Mutant Lizards are capable of turning invisible while standing still. Yellow Mutant Lizards have a short-ranged acid spit attack, which leaves a puddle on the ground for a few seconds and can still deal damage before fading. Red Mutant Lizards fire a long-ranged homing projectile.
  • Raptor: A tougher enemy first encountered in Stage 1-2 and becoming more common in the later stages. Raptors attack by charging at the player's vehicle while roaring. Red Raptors breathe a short-ranged stream of orb projectiles.
  • Pteranodon: The only flying enemy, and only encountered in Stages 3-1 and 3-2. They attack by quickly flying towards the player's T-1 Typhoon. Red Pteranodons can also fire twin lasers from their wings.
  • T-Rex: The boss at the end of each level. They pursue the player's vehicle and attempt to bite them. T-Rexes are only vulnerable when they roar. The yellow T-Rex spawns a yellow Raptor whenever it roars, although these Raptors are weaker than the regular yellow Raptors. The red T-Rex spews a large number of orb projectiles when it roars, similar to the red Raptor's attack.

In every stage, the player can collect weapon upgrades and energy capsules, which are either out in the open or hidden in destructible crates. Each vehicle's weapon can be upgraded twice, allowing the player to hold the space bar and charge up a more powerful attack. Any additional weapon upgrades are added as extra ammo to the player's special weapon, which instantly defeats all on-screen dinosaurs or deals significant damage to a roaring T-Rex. However, all upgrades are lost upon starting the next stage. Energy capsules fully restore the vehicle's energy after taking damage from dinosaurs; if the vehicle loses all energy, it is a game over.

If the player logged in with their LEGO Club account, they could save their high score.

Notes[]

  • The game's title and menu screen plays the first few seconds of the LEGO Dino Attack commercial, specifically the CGI portion where the T-Rex smashes through a brick wall.
  • Although the Street Sprinter and Urban Avenger are not playable, they appear in the game's "How to Play" menu using stock art of their respective sets.
  • On the Dino Attack products page, the Dino Attack team is referred to as "D.I.N.O Force team" in the description for this game.[2] This name is not used in the game itself, nor does it appear in any other Dino Attack media. However, "D.I.N.O. Force" originates from LEGO's Toy Fair 2005 press release,[6] suggesting that it was a preliminary name for the team.
