4717 Temple of Mount Everest is an Adventurers Orient Expedition set that was released in 2003.
Description[]
The set includes Johnny Thunder, Lord Sam Sinister, Ngan Pa, and Sherpa Sangye Dorje. The set comes with two models: Lord Sinister's bi-plane and the eponymous Temple of Mount Everest.
The Temple of Mount Everest is built upon a white baseplate and BURPs that represent the Himalayan mountains. The temple itself is built primarily out of black, grey, bright yellowish orange, and earth orange pieces. The temple features three traps: an unbalanced rope bridge, swinging axes, and a trapdoor catapult. The BURP beneath the temple can be slid aside to reveal a hidden cave containing the Golden Sword.
The set also contains map tiles and playing cards for the Orient Expedition board game. The goal of this game is to collect treasure, overcome the challenges in the Temple of Mount Everest, retrieve the Golden Sword, and make it to the end with the most points.
Background[]
The Temple of Mount Everest the hiding place of Marco Polo's Golden Sword, referred to as "a place of enlightenment" in Polo's clues. Lord Sinister flies his bi-plane in an attempt to stop the Adventurers' Aero Nomad. At the temple, Johnny avoids most of the traps, while Lord Sinister is catapulted out by the trapdoor after taking a yellow gemstone from an idol. The Adventurers use the yellow gem to reveal the hidden cave containing the Golden Sword and the next map piece to China.
