"Surrender…to whichever boss I’m taking orders from today!"
―Evil Knight

The Evil Knight, also referred to as the Dark Knight[1] and Night Lord,[2] is a Collectable Minifigure released in 2012 as one of the sixteen minifigures from 8831 Minifigures Series 7.

Description[]

The Evil Knight has black legs printed with silver armour and spikes. He has a black unprinted torso, over which he wears a chest-plate printed with silver spikes and armour similar to his legs; the spikes seemingly form a grinning monstrous face. His arms and hands are also black. His face is bright yellow, and has a furious expression and red eyes. He wears a black helmet over his head. He carries a long black sword (first seen on the Highland Battler), and a black shield printed with silver spikes and the red head of a snarling boar.

As the Night Lord in The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame, his skin is lime green instead of yellow.

Background[]

The Evil Knight enjoys villainy and has a history of being a minion for various villains, including Vladek from Knights' Kingdom II, Basil the Bat Lord from Fright Knights, and Cedric The Bull from Knights' Kingdom. His red eyes are a remnant of spending a summer as one of Vladek's Shadow Knights. As a consequence, he sometimes forgets whoever his current boss is.

In The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame, the Night Lord keeps a Mysterious Bag containing the Thing of Power. Although the Night Lord is defeated by the player to claim the Thing for the King of Middle Zealand, he will return due to the Thing's black magic. The resurrected Night Lord and his Orcs attack the King's castle and are defeated again, allowing Majisto to destroy the Thing.

“Surrender…to whichever boss I’m taking orders from today!”

The Evil Knight loves nothing better than looting, pillaging and laying waste to peaceful kingdoms. He’s worked for all of the big baddies over the years, from Basil the Bat Lord to Cedric the Bull. He even once spent a memorable summer as one of Vladek’s mystical Shadow Knights, and was delighted that he got to keep his glowing red eyes afterwards.

Some bad guys take up villainy for money, and others for power or land, but the Evil Knight just likes being a wicked henchman. As long as he has a suit of spiky black armor, a sword and orders to cause trouble for a noble king or an innocent village, he’ll be happy to smash things up until somebody tells him to stop. In fact, he’s been part of so many evil armies that he sometimes forgets who he’s working for at the moment!

Notes[]

  • The Evil Knight's black armor and red boar symbol appear to be a homage to the famous "Black Knight" from the 1975 cult classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail. His role as the Night Lord in The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame appears to be another homage, this time to Sauron from The Lord of the Rings.
  • The Evil Knight is one of the five minifigures that does not have torso printing, the others being the Maraca Man, the Conquistador, the Hockey Player, and the Football Player.
